Automations produce files. A report, an export, a generated document, the spreadsheet a workflow was asked to build. Until now those files had nowhere to live, so they were emailed out, attached to a session and forgotten, or regenerated every time somebody needed them again.
File Storage fixes that. You will find it under Data > File Storage.
What it is
A file area for your organisation that behaves the way you expect one to behave. Create folders, upload into them, search and sort, move things around, delete what you no longer want. Deleted files go to a bin that keeps them for seven days and then clears itself, so a wrong click is a recoverable mistake rather than a lost afternoon.
Above your own folders sits one folder per workflow, named after the workflow, holding every file that workflow produced. Those folders are read-only on purpose: nobody can rename or delete the record of what an automation actually generated.
The part that matters
The storage is not a separate cupboard that only people can open. The same files are reachable by the automations themselves:
- Workflows get storage nodes that read, write and delete files as a step.
- Agents get file tools, so an agent can look up a document before it answers and write its result back.
- The API and the MCP server expose the same operations, so an external tool or your AI coding assistant works on the same tree.
That is what turns it from a drive into a working area. A workflow can write a report on Monday and an agent can answer a question from it on Thursday, without anybody moving a file in between.
Letting an agent delete things
Agents can delete files, which is a real permission and worth being explicit about. Every delete an AI performs goes to the bin, never straight to a purge, and the bin records what removed it. A model that gets it wrong costs you a restore, not the file.
Worth knowing
- The AI surfaces work on text. People can upload and download anything they like; agents and workflows read and write text files.
- Workflow folders are read-only for people, by design.
- Everything in File Storage lives inside a space, so the access rules you already set for a space apply to its files too.
Open Data > File Storage and upload something. If a workflow of yours has already produced files, its folder is waiting for you with the history in it.
